Duties & Responsibilities

The Treasury Department is responsible for managing and executing the Bank's investments portfolio, cash management, FX, Interest Rate, liquidity and funding strategy. The Treasury Officer will be responsible for performing all the cash management activities, including maintaining Nostro cashflows, deposit analysis, and FX related activities.

You will be responsible for:

  • performing all ATM related duties from a Treasury custodian perspective, including periodical statistical reporting to Central Bank of Malta;
  • performing all cash management related duties, including physical cash held with the outsourced cash centre and within the Treasury vaults. The role includes cash consignments and being a point of reference for branches when co-ordinating cash van with G4S.
  • assisting with liquidity management and foreign exchange activities. The role requires the candidate to keep the Bank’s Nostro cashflows updated and reconciled to the bank statements received;
  • maintaining the Foreign Exchange position of the Bank, instruct the traders to perform the necessary trades, and quote foreign exchange rates to branches, corporate team and to clients;
  • checking mark-to-market on all open derivative trades and calculate whether margin calls should be issued or are expected to be received daily. Additionally, the candidate needs to perform all the EMIR reconciliations with respect to derivatives;
  • assisting with due diligence activities on the Bank’s counterparties;
  • process tickets in relation to foreign exchange, money markets, and bonds trades on the respective system;
  • working closely with the Commercial, IT, Finance and Risk Functions;
  • ensuring compliance with all regulatory capital, liquidity and balance sheet requirements through the appropriate control and governance framework;
  • assisting in producing reports for senior management; and
  • performing all other duties requested from the Head of Treasury from time to time.

Competencies & Experience

The potential candidate should be reliable and trustworthy, well-organised with a disposition to learn and have a team-oriented approach.

You must:

  • have an Advanced Diploma equivalent to MQF Level 4 in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, Finance/Banking, Economics, Business, Statistics or another related field;
  • have knowledge of Treasury, and have commercial understanding of the business;
  • general understanding of treasury products and financial markets, such as securities, interest rates and FX;
  • have good knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) is required;
  • possess strong communication skills (both verbal and written), ability to prepare PowerPoint presentations and to communicate findings;
  • have strong analytical and data compilation skills;.
  • ability to interact and communicate effectively and work collaboratively across the organization;
  • be able to prioritise and to work in a fast-paced, high-energy, deadline-driven environment;
  • have an inquisitive, energetic and pro-active mindset with hunger to learn; and
  • have a positive attitude, inspires enthusiasm, self-motivated and with an eye for detail.
