Malta Enterprise and Banif Bank (Malta) plc sign cooperation agreement

Malta Enterprise and Banif Bank (Malta) plc signed a cooperation agreement to foster business cooperation. This agreement refers to the business delegation that will accompany HE The President of Malta during the official visit in Portugal between the 11th and 13th November 2008.

Malta Enterprise and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, supported by Banif Bank (Malta plc), will be leading a strong group of around 30 business delegates to Porto and Lisbon to discuss possible business cooperation with Portuguese businesses, the bulk of which has been identified by Banif SGPS and the Commercial Associations in Porto and Lisbon. The range of products and services that will be promoted include household goods, ICT, renewable energies, transport services, tourism services, education and training, automobile components, environmental products, financial services, architectural services and foodstuffs. The business cooperation being sought include export and import, technology transfer, joint ventures and other forms of business cooperation.

Banif Bank (Malta) plc will take an active role and will be contributing towards the success of this event through a number of initiatives. Banif will act as the main link between the business delegates of both countries having branches in both countries. Banif SGPS, is one of the leading financial institutions in Portugal with over 500 branches distributed around the Iberian Peninsula. Banif Financial Group is present in 14 countries around the world and employs around 5000 people.

Mr Alan Camilleri, Chairman of Malta Enterprise stated that he is pleased to note the contribution by Banif Bank to assist local SMEs in their internationalisation efforts. This cooperation agreement is expected to lead to further cooperation between Malta Enterprise and Banif Bank to assist local companies in their growth strategies.

On his part, Mr Joaquim F. Silva Pinto, CEO of Banif Bank (Malta) plc said that the Bank is very pleased to be the official partner of Malta Enterprise during this official visit. This business delegation offers a good opportunity to strengthen the relationship between both Malta and Portugal and believes that Banif can be a catalyst in the development of new business ventures between countries.
