Banif Bank warns about scam emails sent on its behalf

Banif Bank (Malta) plc would like to inform the general public that the email titled ‘Dear Banif Bank Customer You Have A New Message’ , which has been received by a number of people in Malta and Gozo, is a scam.

This electronic message is illegally portraying itself to be sent by Banif Bank (Malta) plc. Recipients are asked to click on the link provided in the email in order to view a new security message available on their Banif internet banking system.

Banif would like to assure its customers that it does not use electronic mail with links or any software for immediate installation.

“We urge you to exercise caution if you receive an e-mail message asking you to access the Banif Bank (Malta) plc website via a link. The Bank’s official internet banking site should only be accessed through the Bank’s official website at www.banif.com.mt. The Bank’s website is protected using international security standards,’’ commented a Bank representative from the IT Department.

Clients who may have provided their personal details in this scam are requested to contact any Banif Bank branch or call customer care on customercare@banif.com.mt or 2260 1000 immediately.

Banif Bank took all the necessary precautions to safeguard the interest of their clients and filed a report with the Cyber Crime Unit, who is investigating the matter.
