Launch of Maltese Portuguese Business Council

“In providing our internationalisation services, we know first-hand that Business Councils are a very efficient way to help firms venture abroad. They provide the ideal forum to connect Maltese business people with common international aspirations to share experiences, information and intelligence.” - President of the MCCEI

The Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry is pleased to announce the launch of the newly formed Maltese Portuguese Business Council.  This Business Council is supported by Banif Bank (Malta) plc as part of its Gold-Partnership Agreement with the Malta Chamber. The launch will take place at the Malta Chamber on Wednesday, 26th February at 14.45 hrs.

The Maltese Portuguese Business Council (MPBC) is the latest in a series of region-specific Business Councils to be established within the Malta Chamber. There are already existing business councils for: Tunisia, Germany, Scandinavia and the Middle East.

The Chairman of the MPBC, Mr. Garry Crossan, said that the launch is the result of a year’s preparations, during which the committee had defined the mission statement, contacted and met with relevant stakeholders and created the corporate identity of this business council.

The launch will be addressed by the Chairman of Banif Bank, Mr Luis Amado, who is also the former Portuguese Minister of Foreign Affairs “We are proud to be one of the drivers of MPBC,” said Luis Avides Moreira, Chief Commercial Officer at Bank Bank (Malta) plc. “The Bank will be using its leverage to assist enterprises on both sides for export and investment, and through MPBC, assist them with technical advice. Ultimately the aim is to increase trade relations between the two countries, and exploit the opportunities that exist.”

The event will also be addressed by Mr. Autusto de Athayde, the President of the Portuguese Maltese Chamber of Commerce in Portugal, and the closing address will be delivered by the Minister for the Economy, Investment and Small Business, the Hon. Dr. Chris Cardona.

A number of Portuguese companies will be visiting Malta specifically for the launch event, and these companies will be exhibiting in the Courtyard of the Malta Chamber on the day of the event, and meeting with Maltese companies and visiting Gozo on Thursday 27th February.
