Banif supports new Diploma in Maltese Literature

The University of Malta is accepting applications for a new, two-year evening Diploma in Maltese Literature that starts in October 2016. This is a part-time course in Maltese, with lectures on Monday and Wednesday from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm. The Diploma opens every two years and is being run by the Department of Maltese within the Faculty of Arts of the University of Malta. Banif Bank will be refunding the fees (up to a maximum of €2,000), of that student who places first in the course.

The Diploma focuses on the critical analysis and application of literature in the 21st century and covers areas that are not covered by the BA programme in Maltese. This Diploma is being launched at a time when Maltese literature is going through a revival both on the national and on the international scene, one that is spurred by new and creative uses of the Maltese language.

“Banif Bank firmly believes in the importance of education, and in promoting local culture and heritage,” said Adrian Coppini, Chief Officer Corporate Services at Banif Bank. “What greater heritage is there than our mother tongue? In this increasingly global age, we hope that this Diploma will help shine more light on Maltese Literature – both from a purely academic perspective as well as its applications in contemporary life.”

The Diploma also has the support of the Malta Arts Council.A detailed description of the course and other information is available at www.um.edu.mt/arts/malti/avvizi/diploma-letteratura, and on Facebook at www.facebook.com/uom.diplittmalt. Applications close on 21st July 2016.
